The most famous transhumance in italy

Experience it live in Maso Corto (September 8th, 2024) and Vernago (September 14th, 2024)

The transhumance in Val Senales, Italy, an ancient custom that dates back 600 years, is still practiced and kept alive today. This archaic tradition is now part of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The annual migration in Val Senales is the only cross-border and trans-glacial transhumance in the world. Every year, the shepherds lead flocks of 3,000 – 4,000 sheep on a mass migration from Vernago and Maso Corto across two mountain passes to the fertile pastures of Vent in neighboring Austria. This transhumance in Italy covers more than 40km, across gullies and snow-covered fields.
In September, the shepherds bring their sheep and goats back to the valley at Vernago and Maso Corto.
